Module 4 of 6 · About 40 min

Add, ask, check with Claude Code

Add three documents, ask a question and get the answer filed, with sentences to copy.

Download the starter kitAn empty Obsidian vault, the rules file to fill in and every sentence from the course. A few KB.

Start Claude Code in your vault

This is the only time you need a terminal, and only two commands:

  1. Open a terminal in your vault folder. On Windows: in the File Explorer, right-click the folder, then Open in Terminal. On Mac: right-click the folder in the Finder, Services, New Terminal at Folder.
  2. Type claude and press Enter. The first time, Claude Code asks you to sign in with your Claude account.

From then on, you write in plain language. All the sentences of this module are in prompts.md in the kit.

First run

Read CLAUDE.md. Check that the folders it describes exist and create the missing ones. Fill themes.md with the themes from the list, with no notes yet. Create nothing else.

Claude asks permission before writing files. Read what it proposes and accept: that is how you learn what it does.

1. Add

Drop a document into raw/, then:

Add raw/FILE-NAME following the ADD operation in CLAUDE.md.

Claude creates the source note, updates or creates the topic and person notes, adds links in both directions, then updates the index, the theme map and the log. Open Obsidian: the new notes are there, and the graph has grown.

2. Ask

Question for my second brain: YOUR QUESTION. Follow the ASK operation.

Claude first checks qa/ for an answer already given, then reads the theme map, opens only the useful notes, answers citing them, and files the answer. Ask the same question again: it will reread the filed answer instead of searching again.

3. Check

Check the brain (CHECK operation). Don't fix anything, just list.

You get the broken links, orphan notes, notes without themes and contradictions, with a score out of 10. Then choose what to fix: “Fix points 1 and 3, not the others.” Claude fixes the mechanical things; contradictions are your call.

Never let it fix everything blindly. A check that corrects itself also hides its own mistakes.
